Retold by Rebecca Holden

I would like to take this opportunity to thank EAT for your support for my exhibition ‘Retold’ at Toi Poneke. My experience of exhibiting at Toi Poneke was an excellent one and I was fortunate to be the exhibiting artist when Toi Poneke celebrated their 10th birthday.

Due to this my exhibition enjoyed a great number of visitors which was great exposure for my artistic practice. I received some excellent and encouraging feedback over the duration of the exhibition which was fantastic.

Additionally, during the 10th birthday celebrations performance artist Kenneth Männchen performed as the ‘fox’ character from ‘The Golden Bird’ for which he modelled. This was a great way of representing the artist/model relationship in a unique way and was well received by the audience on the day.

In the near future I’m hoping to exhibit this body of work elsewhere in the country and I’m looking into avenues for doing this. I’m also looking into creating a site specific work under the About Spaces initiative in Hutt City and am currently in discussion about this project with them.

I am also exploring the possibility of a collaborative exhibition with an American artist but this project is in the very initial stages at this time.

It can be costly for artists to build up their careers so I appreciate the generous support you offer.
